Corey Conners secures second Texas Open title ahead of sixth Masters appearance

Canadian golfer Corey Conners won the Texas Open for the second time ahead of his sixth Masters appearance. He shot a bogey-free four-under-par 68 to finish on 15 under, beating PGA Tour rookie Sam Stevens by one point, who had two eagles in a 66 at TPC San Antonio.

Matt Kuchar birdied the last three holes and hit a 69 to finish joint third on 13 under with Sam Ryder, who achieved a score of 66.

Conners was one stroke behind leader Patrick Rodgers at the beginning of the day, but he managed to maintain his composure and execute his shots perfectly, earning himself his second PGA Tour title. Conners had previously won the Texas Open in 2019, and his win this year will give him a significant boost ahead of the Masters.

Stevens, who played in the group in front of Conners, hit a wayward second shot to the left of the par-five 18th green. Conners had to wait for around 10 minutes on the final fairway while Stevens chipped to eight feet, but he missed the birdie putt, giving Conners the opportunity to secure his win with a par. Despite missing the green with his second shot and chunking his chip onto the green, Conners managed to two-putt for par from 30 feet to claim his victory.

This win at the Texas Open is a testament to Conners’ skill and determination. He executed his shots perfectly and maintained his composure under pressure, ultimately earning himself the title. This victory will undoubtedly give him the confidence he needs to compete in the upcoming Masters, where he has performed well in the past. In his debut appearance in 2018, he made the cut and finished tied for 32nd, and in 2019, he improved on that performance, finishing tied for 46th. However, he missed the cut last year and will be looking to put that behind him and make his mark in this year’s competition.
